Dell XPS 12 Review - A Promising New Windows 8 Laptop and Tablet in One

Out of the new Windows 8 models, the Dell XPS 12 ranks the highest. It looks to be the most promising. This convertible laptop has a flexible design which allows the user to turn the device into a tablet with a flip-and-fold motion. It's constructed from durable materials such as machined aluminum, carbon fiber, and Gorilla Glass. These materials are highly tough and durable. Their durability doesn't take away from the convertible's flexibility, however.

One of the best thing about the XPS 12 is its display. A 160-degree viewing angle means that the 12.5 inch full high definition display looks clear from any seat in the room. Just because the screen is small doesn't mean that it doesn't support full high definition (1080p). It contains nearly twice as many pixels as a standard definition (720p) display, so you can seen all of the details.

Even though the Dell XPS 12 can be customized, the base specs include:

  • Processor: 3rd Generation Intel Core i5
  • Storage: 128 GB Solid State Drive
  • Graphics: Intel HD 4000
  • Wi-Fi: Intel 6235 WLAN / Wi-Di
  • Memory: 4 GB Dual channel (DDR3)

Deal With A Malware Infected Notebook

No matter what OS you are using, at any time, malware can still bring your notebook to its knees. The important thing, however, is not to stress out over spyware and malware while you're on the road. Read on for tips that will help you troubleshoot any problems you may encounter and keep your notebook running while you are away from the office.

THE RIGHT TOOLS
Most of us have some anti-spyware and antivirus software installed on our business notebooks; some of us have more than one loaded. But these programs aren't really going to be very helpful unless we update them frequently. Even the popular Spybot Search & Destroy needs updating to do its job properly. When a user notices a problem, a common first reaction is to run the anti-spyware and antivirus programs on his machine. That's a great idea, of course, but it's important that you update and install the most current version of the software before you run the program. Doing this can save you a bit of time and will help root out any new infections you may have picked up while surfing the Web. Although you can set most enterprise-level antivirus programs to update automatically, there are some programs that require manual updates before you start the lengthy scanning process. For example, when using Spybot Search & Destroy, all you have to do is click the Update icon on the left side of the screen to download the newest malware definitions. After you download the latest definitions and detection rules, click the Search For Problems icon and follow any prompts to complete the update.

THE BEST DEFENSE

Common Power Faults on a Notebook

If a laptop or notebook isn't able to power-up with the AC power adapter in place, most people naturally assume that the main power supply has become faulty, so go out and purchase a new and often costly adapter. While the most common cause of a machine not charging or starting up is as a result of a damage or faulty power adapter, there are also several other factors that can contribute to intermittent or no power.

Failed motherboard power controllers, new chargers, and faulty or wobbly DC jacks are also some of the other power related problems that a typical computer technician might come across. Most of the power related problems happen as a result of common wear and tear, which can be caused more so in notebooks that are often mobile. Although a well-designed laptop bag, with its special protected sleeve, is able to give a high degree of on-the-go protection, these machines can still be sensitive to the slightest knock or bump, which can dislodge some of the inner workings or components.

Some of the potential issues that could cause issues with powering up a notebook - Power Jack - a common problem just behind the faulty power adapter in terms of frequency is that of a damage power jack, this is often caused by the constant plugging or un-plugging of the power adapter or if excessive force is used to remove the adapter. Situated on either the side or top of the machine, if a power jack starts to become lose or wobbly, than this can cause problems in powering up. Repairing this component can be different for the non-experienced person, as it is often soldered to the motherboard, meaning that is best left to the quality computer repair guy.
