Dell XPS 12 Review - A Promising New Windows 8 Laptop and Tablet in One
Out of the new Windows 8 models, the Dell XPS 12 ranks the highest. It looks to be the most promising. This convertible laptop has a flexible design which allows the user to turn the device into a tablet with a flip-and-fold motion. It's constructed from durable materials such as machined aluminum, carbon fiber, and Gorilla Glass. These materials are highly tough and durable. Their durability doesn't take away from the convertible's flexibility, however.
One of the best thing about the XPS 12 is its display. A 160-degree viewing angle means that the 12.5 inch full high definition display looks clear from any seat in the room. Just because the screen is small doesn't mean that it doesn't support full high definition (1080p). It contains nearly twice as many pixels as a standard definition (720p) display, so you can seen all of the details.
Even though the Dell XPS 12 can be customized, the base specs include:
- Processor: 3rd Generation Intel Core i5
- Storage: 128 GB Solid State Drive
- Graphics: Intel HD 4000
- Wi-Fi: Intel 6235 WLAN / Wi-Di
- Memory: 4 GB Dual channel (DDR3)

Buying a New Laptop - What to Know, and What to Look For
It's that time of year again. The summer is winding to a close and that means colder weather, leaves changing their color and schools everywhere are about to open their doors. One thing that a lot of parents (and students) are dreading is that school's are beginning to require their students own laptops to use in their classes. But fear not, for I have compiled a guide that will make buying the right laptop much easier for you. And if you're not going to school this fall, this guide should still assist you in your quest for a business or personal laptop for yourself or someone in need this holiday season.
Why are you buying a new Laptop?
Maybe you're one of the parents looking to find a laptop for their child to take to school this year, or perhaps you're looking for a system that will give you a new edge at the office. The reason you are buying your laptop is going to determine what you're going to need out of the new system. If your laptop is going to be using Computer Animated Design software for example, you're going to want a more powerful processor than if you're merely using it for Word Processing or Internet based research. Are you a hardcore gamer? Do you like editing photos or creating videos? Are you a musician looking to get some better exposure? It may be best for you to jot down every possible scenario you could see yourself using the laptop before you read the next section of the guide, to be sure you're getting everything you need out of the system.
Laptops come in all shapes and sizes.

Deal With A Malware Infected Notebook
No matter what OS you are using, at any time, malware can still bring your notebook to its knees. The important thing, however, is not to stress out over spyware and malware while you're on the road. Read on for tips that will help you troubleshoot any problems you may encounter and keep your notebook running while you are away from the office.
THE RIGHT TOOLS
Most of us have some anti-spyware and antivirus software installed on our business notebooks; some of us have more than one loaded. But these programs aren't really going to be very helpful unless we update them frequently. Even the popular Spybot Search & Destroy needs updating to do its job properly. When a user notices a problem, a common first reaction is to run the anti-spyware and antivirus programs on his machine. That's a great idea, of course, but it's important that you update and install the most current version of the software before you run the program. Doing this can save you a bit of time and will help root out any new infections you may have picked up while surfing the Web. Although you can set most enterprise-level antivirus programs to update automatically, there are some programs that require manual updates before you start the lengthy scanning process. For example, when using Spybot Search & Destroy, all you have to do is click the Update icon on the left side of the screen to download the newest malware definitions. After you download the latest definitions and detection rules, click the Search For Problems icon and follow any prompts to complete the update.
THE BEST DEFENSE

Common Power Faults on a Notebook
If a laptop or notebook isn't able to power-up with the AC power adapter in place, most people naturally assume that the main power supply has become faulty, so go out and purchase a new and often costly adapter. While the most common cause of a machine not charging or starting up is as a result of a damage or faulty power adapter, there are also several other factors that can contribute to intermittent or no power.
Failed motherboard power controllers, new chargers, and faulty or wobbly DC jacks are also some of the other power related problems that a typical computer technician might come across. Most of the power related problems happen as a result of common wear and tear, which can be caused more so in notebooks that are often mobile. Although a well-designed laptop bag, with its special protected sleeve, is able to give a high degree of on-the-go protection, these machines can still be sensitive to the slightest knock or bump, which can dislodge some of the inner workings or components.
Some of the potential issues that could cause issues with powering up a notebook -
Power Jack - a common problem just behind the faulty power adapter in terms of frequency is that of a damage power jack, this is often caused by the constant plugging or un-plugging of the power adapter or if excessive force is used to remove the adapter. Situated on either the side or top of the machine, if a power jack starts to become lose or wobbly, than this can cause problems in powering up. Repairing this component can be different for the non-experienced person, as it is often soldered to the motherboard, meaning that is best left to the quality computer repair guy.

Finding a Perfect Notebook for Gaming
There ard a ton of laptops and notebooks on the market, with each of them used primarily for online gaming applications. The gaming market is huge, with several top brand companies developing more and more notebooks specifically for use with online games. These manufacturers often target their marketing efforts towards gamers, who usually are not afraid to spend big bucks when it comes down to getting a notebook that provides them with a performance advantage.
With all these choices on the market, it is very important for you to break down exactly what attributes are critical to ensure your gaming experience is not delayed due to performance issues.
GRAPHICS CARD IS KEY
The most important asset a good gaming computer can have is the graphics card and making sure it is compatible to which games you play most. Simply put, you can't play most online games with an inferior graphics card. The best graphics cards on the market based on price and quality are the Nvidia GeForce 500 series as well as Radeon's HD 6970 and 6950 series graphics card. The graphics card is what powers the monitor to show all the detail of the game, which is what most gamers need to make their gaming experience most enjoyable.

Finding the Perfect Notebook for Students
When kids head off to college or are in need of a Notebook for their high school classes and social projects, many parents are limited by budget, and questions like, 'Does my student really need all these bells and whistles?' To quickly answer these parents, the answer is - YES.
Feed Their Priorities - Don't fight them
Most students are young adults, who often have their priorities a little out of line. What might be important for them is most likely low on your list of priorities. Instead of fighting this issue, put this fact of life into your corner. Now, I'm not recommending that you go out and buy the most expensive piece of equipment on the market just to make your student happy. Simply look at it this way, if you go to work and your boss asks you to type up a report, would you rather have an old-school type writer or a standard word processor?

Apple iPad, Tablet, Hybrid, Laptop, Netbook, or Notebook?
An impressive range but which is right for you?
I have always been impressed with the Apple iPad, Tablets and countless other versions put out by the vast spectrum of computer manufactures. There is very much something for everyone, but it is important that you the prospective buyer understands the differences and chooses wisely.
Apple iPad, Tablets:
The iPad and Tablet are very much in a class of their own. A great idea for many, but if you need something that is a little more perky and versatile then there are plenty of options available for you. The main attraction of these is in being compact, light weight, and having a relatively long battery life. On the other hand they have limited hard drive storage with a current maximum of only 64 Gig. These are fine for "Surfing the Net," sending and receiving emails and playing around with a plethora of boutique programs.
The small 64 Gig hard drive renders devices of this nature useless for me in my line of work. To give you some idea, storage of a 1 hour 30 min MP4 movie takes up about 5 Gigabytes alone, while my basic essential programs on my desktop take up just over 85 Gig. If your heart is set on an iPad or Tablet then ensure it has both a USB port and a HDMI socket of some description. These will come in handy, particularly if you plan to take your device with you on your travels. The bigger the hard drive the better. For me a USB port is essential. Prices range from as little as $250.00 up to $1,200.00 AUD/USD.
The Apple iPad 3 at a glance:
Aside from an "Over Charging" issue, I can only recommend a personal appraisal before finalising any purchase, especially if you are considering an iPad or one of the vast arrays of Tablets. Again the new Apple iPad 3 has a limited hard drive 64Gig and no native USB or Video output socket. It does however come with a USB to Apple Dock connector cable, and boasts of battery life of up to 10 hours on a single charge. Do not hesitate to ask questions, It is important to get the details on the iPad 3 charging issue, and more importanly what is being done to address it.
Transformer hybrid tablet with keyboard docking station:
These consist of a tablet with a keyboard docking station. A good idea but the brands I looked at all had one major problem, they were clumsy to use, and in short the "Tablet" component was continually falling off the docking station mount rendering them close to useless for any practical application. Prices range anywhere from $500.00 to $1,500.00 USD/AUD. All those that I have looked at are far too fiddly for my liking.
Laptops:
Nowadays these are quite good value for money, with relatively large hard drive capacity, long battery life, and many now faster and more powerful than some home PC's. These are a great option to have if you do not intend buying a dedicated desktop PC for your everyday home or business use. Prices range anywhere from $600.00 to $3,400.00 USD/AUD depending on your needs. My only concern is that some of these tend to overheat when left on for a while; it is well worth enquiring about that aspect before making any purchasing.
Notebooks and Netbooks:
